| Bio: | New Year, new "About You" section. I love: reading and writing (especially young adult novels), music of all kinds, movies of all kinds, talented teachers, book stores and libraries, college basketball (especially the Iowa State kind), the TV show 24, being my own boss, coffee, wine and chocolate, the Bill of Rights (especially the First Amendment), old trees, cool YA librarians, itunes, people who laugh (especially at themselves) and argue (with civility) and listen and think and vote and respect others, the beach, my teachers and my friends (some are both!), my fat black cat, my ginormous black lab puppy, and my family (especially my son and husband). I hate: snobs, bullies, corporate think, exercise (still working on this...), red tape, arrogance, war, censorship, fear, addictions, terrorists, racism and sexism, guns, liars, people who hurt kids, mean people and dogs. Jobs (past and present): Young adult book reviewer for The Des Moines Register, freelance writer for magazines such as Better Homes and Gardens, Ladies' Home Journal, Parents, Parenting, Pages and Glamour, daily newspaper reporter (14 years), deli/bakery worker, Federal Election Commission press office intern, music store sales (cassettes were the new thing...), waitress.
